Extremely Easy Organic Shower Scrub

Greetings and salutations! I hope you all are managing to stay cool in the summer heat. 🙂 This recipe is a slight departure for a foodie blog, but it’s so refreshing, I just *had* to share. I have been de-gunking my world and tossing out all the parabens, BPA-lined cans, and so forth. Talk about a major disappointment when I got to my bathroom! My most favorite shower scrub EVER was full of parabens. Argh! About that time, it seemed like I kept bumping into homemade scrubs on the interwebs so I figured I’d give them a try. The first one I made was basically sugar or salt with olive oil. It made my skin super soft….and left my tub (and me) a slimy mess. What to do? As serendipity would have it, around the same time we started spraying our garden for bugs using Dr. Bronner’s mixed with water. Hmmmm…..What would happen if I put a little Dr. Bronner’s into the mix? Eureka! A new and fabulous shower scrub is born!

Easy Sudsy Shower Scrub
Granulated sugar
Olive Oil
Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap (Unscented)
Essential Oils (Optional)

Directions: Get the container(s) ready so you know how much to actually make. Use the container you will be storing the shower scrub in as your tool to scoop an amount of granulated sugar into a large bowl. Only fill the container three-fourths full as you will need room for the liquids. Measure out approximately one-fourth the size of your container with olive oil and dump into the bowl with the sugar. Seriously. You don’t need much at all. Add the Dr. Bronner’s in a 4:1 ratio** into the bowl and stir. I also added a few drops of organic lavender and tea tree oil. Yum yum. If you are sensitive to fragrance, go easy on the additional scents. Test first to be sure you won’t have a negative reaction! And no, the scent doesn’t linger. By the time I towel dry off, I can’t smell any scent. I think it just makes me feel good while I am using it.

**What’s a 4 to 1 ratio? Example: 4 T olive oil and 1 T. Dr. Bronner. 1 cup olive oil and 1/4 c. Dr. Bronner’s. Exact measurements are not critical.

Luxuriously soft skin without scary ingredients. And did you notice that one of my containers is a leftover Talenti Gelato container? Heh. What’s not to love?!

Three containers of shower scrub in three minutes. 🙂
